Description: Emanuel Aage Petersen 1894-1948, painter. 1918-22 he was employed at the Royal Porcelain Factory. In 1921 he was in Greenland for the first time, and he was so taken by the country that he returned many times. In 1925-26 he wintered with his family at Jakobshavn and in 1928-30 he participated in the "Greenland in Pictures" expedition along the west coast. In 1931-34 he went to Greenland again in 1935, 1937 and the last time in 1946 at the reunification with Denmark after the war. As a decorative painter, P. took part in the decoration of the large anniversary vases for the EAC, the royal couple's silver wedding, etc. In particular, he practiced marine painting, an interest that had been awakened during the long sea voyages. But the first visit to Greenland came to determine his subsequent production, which includes a very large number of Greenlandic pictures, very naturalistic and beautiful, in both oil and watercolours.
